The Boss Katana-50 is a versatile 50-watt combo amplifier designed for guitarists who need studio-quality tone with gig-ready power. Built around Boss's acclaimed Katana platform, it features a 12-inch custom speaker and five distinct amp characters—Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown, and Acoustic—that cover everything from glassy cleans to high-gain saturation. This amp bridges the gap between practice-room convenience and stage-level performance, making it a favorite among gigging musicians and bedroom players alike. What sets the Katana-50 apart is its onboard effects suite, offering independent Booster, Modulation, Delay, and Reverb sections that can be tweaked directly from the front panel or through Boss's free Tone Studio software. The amp also includes Power Control, allowing players to scale down wattage for late-night practice without sacrificing tonal character—an essential feature for home use. USB connectivity enables direct recording and firmware updates, while the amp's compatibility with Boss's GA-FC foot controller makes it a natural fit for live performance setups. Built with rugged tolex covering and a road-ready chassis, the Katana-50 is engineered to withstand the rigors of touring while delivering consistent, reliable tone night after night. Whether used as a standalone practice amp, a home recording tool, or a small-venue stage amp, the Katana-50 punches well above its price point, making premium tone accessible to players at every level.
Customer reviews
I've used tube amps costing three times as much, and this Katana holds its own. The Crunch channel especially nails classic rock tones.
Power Control lets me crank the tone without waking the neighbors. Only wish it had a built-in footswitch for effects.
Loud enough for small venues, and the effects loop works great with my pedalboard. Tone Studio software is a nice bonus too.
Tone is fantastic, but it's a bit bulkier than I expected for a 50-watt combo. Still, worth every penny for the sound quality.
